Texas LTC Shooting Qualification at Blackhawk Shooting Range.

Tactical Bexar will administer Texas LTC shooting proficiency exam. Tactical Bexar team and any Blackhawk Shooting Range staff will be Range Safety Officers (RSO) for this qualifying event and our commands must be followed at all times. We will stop the event or remove anyone for safety violations. 

SAFETY is our top priority! At any time, if you witness any unsafe acts please let the RSOs know immediately. 

Where things are and general flow of operations:

Blackhawk Shooting Range located at 12135 Jarratt Rd, Atascosa, TX 78002 is an outdoor facility. Please dress appropriately for the outdoors and for the weather. Long sleeved shirts recommended (Breathable / athletic for warmer months). NO SHORTS or OPEN TOE FOOTWEAR allowed during qualification.

The Range office is located at the end of the private road just past the pond on the left (Look for Flag Pole). PARK to the right of the office and MEET under the covered area with picnic tables. The restrooms are located just under the covered area next to the office, near an old Coke machine. 

Pistol Qualifications may occur on the Primary pistol range in front of the Range office, on Secondary range (DEFAULT) - to the left of the Rifle range, or on special occasions the T range - right of the Primary range (look for Red Conex container). Any changes to the range used will be discussed at the initial meetup.

ITEMS to bring:

• Driver License or Identification Card number

• LTC - 104 form.

• Handgun - UNLOADED, Magazine separate from handgun. NO SIG P320s or Equivalent.

• 50 rounds minimum of ammunition required for your handgun. (Review Manufacturer Guide) 

• Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)

  • Eye protection - Prescription glasses or shades allowed. (Be aware weather and low light conditions may hinder shooting with shades.)

  • Ear protection - electronic preferred, but not required. 

  • Head protection - Baseball cap recommended. Make sure it works with ear pro.

• Hand towel - used for top of barrel to keep handgun and ammo from sliding off.

INITIAL MEET FLOW - Items required are IDs, LTC-104 forms, and payment CASH ONLY.

• Check IDs and LTC 104 Forms.

• Payment collected for Quals and pay Range Fee.

• A safety briefing will be given for the Range Rules, go over the 4 Universal Firearm Safety Rules, and overall shooting qualification operations.

4 UNIVERSAL RULES OF FIREARM SAFETY

1. Treat all firearms as if they're loaded.

2. Finger off the trigger, placed on the frame or slide until ready to fire.

3. Always point the firearm in the safest direction possible, never point it at anything you are not willing to destroy.

4. Know your target and what's beyond it.

• Directions to shooting qualification range provided. (Secondary, Primary or T range)

Shooting Qualification Range FLOW

• Move and park your vehicle at the specified shooting qualification range. 

• Bring handgun, ammunition, PPE and towel. 

• RSO will check to see if the handgun is unloaded at the Safe table and provide a barrel location to place items for your qualification.

• A review of verbal range commands (Cease Fire, Load & Make Ready, Prepare to Fire, Fire, Unload & Show Clear,  Down Range) will be given followed by demonstration of actions for each command.

If you struggle with basic operation of a handgun we recommend taking our basic handgun class prior to taking your shooting qualification.

• Once the shooting qualification process begins no coaching/instructing will be given. You will be expected to clear malfunctions if encountered safely. If you DO need assistance with malfunctions, PLEASE KEEP YOUR FIREARM POINTED DOWN RANGE and RAISE YOUR HAND, a RSO will help.

• To qualify, each shooter will need to safely handle their firearm at all times in the following shooting sequence: 

50 rounds of your handgun’s ammunition required

Passing score is 175 out of 250.

3 Yard Line - 20 Rounds

1 round in 2 seconds, 5 times (5 rounds total)

2 rounds in 3 seconds, 5 times (10 rounds total)

5 rounds in 10 seconds, 1 time (5 rounds total)

7 Yard Line - 20 Rounds

5 rounds in 10 seconds, 1 time (5 rounds total)

2 rounds in 4 seconds, 1 time (2 rounds total)

3 rounds in 6 seconds, 1 time (3 rounds total)

1 round in 3 seconds, 5 times (5 rounds total)

5 rounds in 15 seconds, 1 time (5 rounds total)

15 Yard Line - 10 Rounds

2 rounds in 6 seconds, 1 time (2 rounds total)

3 rounds in 9 seconds, 1 time (3 rounds total)

5 rounds in 15 seconds, 1 time (5 rounds total)
